Here is a brief break-down of the value of recyclables:

Recyclables... containers marked "CA CRV" should NOT be crushed. If they are, machines cannot determine if they have a CA CRV. These containers can, however, still be "cashed in" by weight.

We now know that the current weight for non CA CRV glass is currently .102 cents per pound. This is a good price, we recycled 480 pounds of liquor bottles (about 4 large trash bags full) from the Global Green party with a value of $48.00.

Here is the current per pound value of other materials:
(materials are a commodity and price varies as demand varies)

Aluminum: $1.55/lb (it's very light)
Plastic #1: .90/cents/ lb
Plastic #2: .51 cents/ lb.
Glass: .102/lb.

How about putting a sign up at your office or apartment building saying "Please recycle your cans and bottles - we're donating them to Recycle A Life!" And then be the point person for your office and take all those cans and bottles every week!

Don't forget - THE LA MARATHON IS SUNDAY - check out the street closures to make sure you won't be affected and can make it to brunch!

Happy New Year, Superstars!!

First of all, thank you all for a very successful Superstar Sunday Holiday Gift Drive!!! We raised over $1,000 for local Los Angeles and Long Beach AIDS hospice residencies, thanks to your support. Over 200 AIDS patients were delivered holiday gifts on Christmas Eve this year, and we are so thankful that we were able to help out. If you would like to be a part of this amazing concept, please let me know but also read my closing paragraph about Secret Admirers. Thank you again to the Normandie Room, Louise's, Sexy DJ, and all the amazing artists that donated pieces!! You're great!!!

Happy New Year - that's old news! We're already on to Valentine's Day - where did this year go??? I decided to take it easy in January but now I'm back in full swing with a lot of incredible things happening in 2007!!! First of all, Chinese New Year is this Sunday February 18, and this will be MY year - the Year of the PIG!!!! If you were born in 1911, 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 then this will be YOUR year too!!!! Check out this profile - I think it fits!!

The Pig of Chinese Astrology may be the most generous and honorable Sign of the Zodiac. Pigs are nice to a fault and possess impeccable manners and taste. This Sign believes in the best qualities of mankind and certainly doesn't consider itself to be superior. Pigs also care a great deal about friends and family and work hard to keep everyone in their life happy. Helping others is a true pleasure for the Pig, who feels best when everyone else is smiling.

Pigs are highly intelligent creatures, forever studying, playing and probing in their quest for greater knowledge. They can be misinterpreted as being lazy, however, due to their love of reveling in the good stuff; this Sign could happily spend hours on end making love, napping, taking a long bubble bath or dallying over an incredible spread of rich foods. Pigs tend to make wonderful life partners due to their hearts of gold and their love of family. Our first Superstar Sunday of 2007 will benefit the incredible new non-profit called EXTRA Cans For The Needy created by our very own Mystery Mike with help from dear friend Alicia! ECFTN is dedicated to ending homelessness by encouraging people to recycle cans and bottles and to donate the recyclables to the homeless. By participating in this worthy cause, people increase their
awareness of homelessness through direct interaction.

Please join us at Safari Sam's for Pajama Brunch served noon to 3 where a percentage of all purchases will directly benefit ECFTN. Also featuring incredible raffle prizes and BIG drinks and best of all - DJs Spining your favorite tunes all afternoon!!!

Come support our friend Patricia for the AIDS Lifecycle! Check out her comedy benefit at the Palms...and help her reach her goal which ultimately is our goal - fighting it!

DONATIONS ALWAYS NEEDED!
Also, as we support so many important causes, we are always looking for donation items for our events. We can use anything for either raffle prizes, silent/live auction items, donations for AIDS residencies and homeless...here are a few ideas so please pass this on to any corporation or individual that may be able to contribute:

- artwork
- advertising
- alcohol sponsors - both bottles of booze for a prize and sponsors for events
- graphic design services for flyers
- gift certificates for restaurants, masseuses, headshots, hotels, etc.
- tickets to games, concerts, events, amusement parks
- new blankets, t-shirts, socks
- dvds
- cds
- books, magazines
- products like candles, bath items, promotional items, hats, etc
- you name it, we'll find a way to use it!!!

SIDE NOTE: The next time you buy postage stamps spend an extra 60 cents and buy the stamps for cure for breast cancer - why not make a difference when possible?

SECRET ADMIRERS WANTED
Lastly, I am looking for a few secret admirers!!! Last weekend I delivered some art work, blankets and socks to a new AIDS residency in Long Beach and they were so thankful and appreciative. This home houses 10 men all fairly to severely ill with AIDS related illnesses. This home is very nice but needs some energy so if you have any art work, plants, NEW blankets, socks, games, books, etc that you'd like to donate please let me know and we'll make it happen. Lastly, I thought it would be very beneficial for these patients to get some encouragement and love from the outside world - does anyone want to become a secret admirer to one of these 10 men by sending cards, care packages etc to them? If so please let me know.....if anyone wanted to send a Valentine off that would be so sweet....

For those of you that remember Judy & Jill, they were the angels that came with their crew to the Carl Bean House two years ago and delivered Christmas trees and gifts to all the residents of the Carl Bean House, and several other hospices!! These two women are amazingly inspirational, and have been delivering gifts and Christmas trees for the last 11 years with minimal donations - let's help them out this year! Last year Team Superstars joined them, it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. These hospice patients could not be more thrilled to receive this kind of unconditional love around the holidays when they most likely feel so alone.

So please, won't you join us by asking for product donations or spending a few dollars here and there at the 99cents store, Target, IKEA, or Old Navy!

What we need to make this Gift Giving a success is:
NEW Fleece Blankets - under $5 at both IKEA and Old Navy
NEW socks
NEW t-shirts, or sweatshirts/pants
Scarves - know anyone that knits??? How nice would a home-made scarf be?
New or used reading material - books, magazines, etc.
Games - cards or table top games
Holiday items - small decorations

This crew delivers gifts to over 200 people, and we can do more if we receive more items...so hit up your friends and family and ask each of them to go out and spend a few bucks on a very meaningful gift for someone in need.

We will also need several volunteers the weekend of December 23 and 24 to help deliver these gifts - please let me know if you can help with any of this!!!!

I personally need a few volunteers on Sunday to help the DJ set up and to assist in setting up the art show! Please email me and let me know if you can help!! Thank you!!!

Juli Askew aka "Juli Star" has lead the efforts in raising over $38,000 for AIDS causes!

As the lead in several fundraising efforts, Juli Star has raised over $38,000 for local Los Angeles AIDS charities and more importantly raised awareness in smaller charities, and recruited almost 100 volunteers and activists to fight to end HIV and AIDS. Juli Star dedicates her passion and inspiration to her best friend Ryan “Rion” Planty who lost the battle against HIV/AIDS March 2005, after 4 months at the now-defunct Carl Bean House.

AIDS Walk Los Angeles – Team Leader for Team Superstars!!

- 2006 70 walkers dressed as Mary Katherine Gallagher, and raised over $12,000 for APLA and $1,720 for AIDS Healthcare Foundation Mobile Testing Unit.

- Beginning in 1999, with only 3 walkers and raising $200 we now have a team of over 70 walkers and has raised over $28,400 for AIDS Walk Los Angeles, and $2,000 for AIDS Walk New York.

-In 2005, we opted to give a portion of the money raised directly to AHF’s Carl Bean House to keep them from closing. We were able to donate $4,500 in 2005, and in 2006 we gave $1,720 for AHF Mobile Testing Unit.

TOTAL = $36,600.00

Holiday Gift Giving with Rick Kearby Gift Giving Foundation

We will deliver over 200 gifts to HIV/AIDS Patients at Homes and Hospices in Los Angeles and Long Beach areas. - Interfaced with membership and general public, promoted tourism, referrals to local business

Los Angeles coordinator of Food pickup and delivery from backstage at rock concerts to local homeless shelters

Public Relations Specialist – Interviewed red-carpet arrivals for in-house B-roll to be distributed to local and national media.

My friend Jim is the Director and has generoulsy offered us this as a fundraiser, so please check it out. December 3 Superstar Sunday Brunch will Benefit the Rick Kearby Gift Giving Foundation!!! Start Planning NOW
For those of you that remember Judy & Jill, they were the angels that came with their crew to the Carl Bean House two years ago and delivered Christmas trees and gifts to all the residents of the Carl Bean House, and several other hospices!! These two women are amazingly inspirational, and last year Team Superstars joined them. It was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. These hospice patients could not be more thrilled to receive this kind of unconditional love around the holidays when they most likely feel so alone.

So please, won't you join us by asking for product donations or spending a few dollars here and there at the 99cents store, Target, IKEA, or Old Navy!

What we need to make this Gift Giving a success is:
NEW Fleece Blankets - under $5 at both IKEA and Old Navy
NEW socks
NEW t-shirts, or sweatshirts/pants
Scarves - know anyone that knits??? How nice would a home-made scarf be?
New or used reading material - books, magazines, etc.
Games - cards or table top games
Holiday items - small decorations
Gift Bags to put everything in!!!

This crew delivers gifts to over 200 people, and we can do more if we receive more items...so hit up your friends and family and ask each of them to go out and spend $20 on a very meaningful gift for someone in need.

We will also need several volunteers the weekend of December 16 and 17 to help deliver these gifts - please let me know if you can help with any of this!!!!

Superstar Sunday Brunch #6 Benefitted The Life Group LA and it brought in almost $300!!! Way to go!!!
