Juli Askew aka "Juli Star" has lead the efforts in raising over $38,000 for AIDS causes!

As the lead in several fundraising efforts, Juli Star has raised over $38,000 for local Los Angeles AIDS charities and more importantly raised awareness in smaller charities, and recruited almost 100 volunteers and activists to fight to end HIV and AIDS.  Juli Star dedicates her passion and inspiration to her best friend Ryan “Rion” Planty who lost the battle against HIV/AIDS March 2005, after 4 months at the now-defunct Carl Bean House. 

˜      AIDS Walk Los Angeles – Team Leader for Team Superstars!!

     - 2006 70 walkers dressed as Mary Katherine Gallagher, and raised over $12,000 for APLA and $1,720 for AIDS Healthcare Foundation Mobile Testing Unit. 

     - Beginning in 1999, with only 3 walkers and raising $200 we now have a team of over 70 walkers and has raised over $28,400 for AIDS Walk Los Angeles, and $2,000 for AIDS Walk New York. 

     -In 2005, we opted to give a portion of the money raised directly to AHF’s Carl Bean House to keep them from closing.  We were able to donate $4,500 in 2005, and in 2006 we gave $1,720 for AHF Mobile Testing Unit.

˜      Holiday Gift Giving with Rick Kearby Gift Giving Foundation

     We will deliver over 200 gifts to HIV/AIDS Patients at Homes and Hospices in Los Angeles and Long Beach areas.  Please come to our Superstar Sunday Gift Drive on Sunday December 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Normandie Room in West Hollywood - $10 - Bring a gift for a drink coupon!  We need blankets, socks, shirts, books, DVDs, etc.

˜      Superstar Sunday Brunches - Creator

     The First Sunday of every month beginning April 2006, Superstar Sunday Brunch has been held at either The VooDoo Room or The Courtyard Restaurant.  We have raised a total of over $1,000 for AIDS Healthcare Mobile Testing Unit, APLA AIDS Marathon Runner John Rowe, and The Life Group LA, by offering a $5 person donation plus incredible raffle prizes.

     Assist at Legendary Bingo events by selling bingo cards both in West Hollywood and most notably as “Lucky Lulu” at Akbar in SilverLake.

˜      UnderDressed Fashion Show Benefit for UnderShare

     Designed and created several garments for 2002 and 2003 fashion show benefiting UnderShare

˜      Night of One Hundred Gowns

     Designed and created several evening gowns for 2001 fashion show benefiting Asian Pacific AIDS Alliance

˜      West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce

     - Networking specialist - excellent at pairing up businesses to assist each other
- Wrote column promoting Chamber businesses "Five Fun Things To Do in West Hollywood"
- Coordinated special events, design of invitations, flyers, signage, décor, auction items
- Interfaced with membership and general public, promoted tourism, referrals to local business

     Los Angeles coordinator of Food pickup and delivery from backstage at rock concerts to local homeless shelters
